thrifty thursday: happy holidays from Brahmin (giveaway!)

So lucky us, Brahmin, those uber fabulous leather-ista's, sent us a special surprise in the mail the other day, complete with a leather tree christmas card!

And, lucky you, because they sent two. So we're giving it away to one of our friends here, because we're all about *nice,* which this satchel definitely is. What, exactly you ask? Well, you'll have to enter to find out! Not as large as the anytime tote, but still luxuriously soft and yummy....

I'll send one lucky lady ( to be chosen at random) this fabulous satchel, complete with dust bag and warranty card. The detes on how to enter:

2. Follow us on Twitter
3. Leave a comment here describing how this satchel would be the perfect addition to your closet
4. Oh, and follow us!

In your comment, be sure to mention your FB name and Twitter handle!

Happy Holidays!!

You have until December 30th. Yes, I know, that's a way's away, but we'll be out and about ( trying to get some sun!) over the next week, so if you don't hear from us, don't fret. We'll be back with even more fabulousness next year! And, one of you will have a new bag... woo hoo!

tuesday trendsday: 'Tis the season...

For sparkle! It's cliche, but it's the one time of year when people don't think we're crazy for donning sparkly sequins. Although, that shouldn't stop us, right? At the same time, however, we want to caution against too much bling. The new year right around the corner does not give you the excuse to ring in 2012 blinding those around you. We say, choose one sparkly piece and let that be the center of your look. We're especially enamored with the Kate Spade clutch and Miu Miu feathered and sequined pumps featured below.

Do: add a little extra sparkle to your home, your wardrobe, your cocktail party

Please: exercise control! As in, please don't wear this top, skirt and shoes all at once!

Pantone 2012 color of the year...

is Tangerine Tango! And we could not be more in love. We just about drool over the delicious poppy punch of this reddish orange, creative and daring hue. Perfect for bringing us out of the winter doldrums and jet setting us into a tropical and exciting paradise, it reminds us of our craving for coral last spring.  Showing up all over the runway's for spring 2012, we recommend adding pop with choice accessories.  Sephora is also rumored to be doing a tangerine/orange collection with Pantone in March, according to WWD.  Below a compilation and tribute to next year's hottest hue.  We especially love it paired with Turquoise and Cobalt. Will it be as hot as Pantone predicts?

beauty make-up monday: the brush

We are often asked about investments of the personal persuasion. You know, investments in, say, yourself? And, our philosophy is that quality trumps quantity. When it comes to make-up, we'll be the first to espouse the praise of the brush and would suggest putting your dollars here, say, over mascara for example. It's what you put your face on with for pete's sake (sort of like what we were talking about when we discussed the importance of the right fitting brassiere. Okay, maybe not AS important, but still). We've also had a bit of a conundrum with how to functionally display our tools for easy use, and invite you to check out our *nice* solve below.

Invest in a great brush (ahem, check out MAC if you're concerned about the quality), and it'll last you for years to come if you take care of it.  We've often been intimidated by the ladies in black with often times outlandish lips, but if you know your brushes, they'll be quick to back down from all that sales mumbo jumbo.

What: Invest in a great brush. May we suggest the #116  from MAC (blush brush) -  a great first brush to begin your collection.

Care: Be sure to tap out excess product and wash out with a gentle oil removing substance... like DAWN ( you really don't need any fancy, schmancy cleaners... ). Squirt a little in a small dish ( or even the palm of your hand), wet your brush, swirl in the liquid detergent, rinse and then tap to dry. We suggest doing this in the morning after you've applied so that it has the entire day to dry. How often? Every 1-2 weeks.

Do: Display in an easily accessible and functional manner ( and beautifully of course). We love how Sephora displays their endless rows of brushes and came up with a similarly cheap, but lovely way to achieve the same effect. Check out our before and after.

Before- a messy jumble of brushes

After, displayed with a touch of *nice* and easily identifiable/accessible!

This slight, but well worth it transformation cost $3. I used an old vase from the gift of birthday flowers from my dad, and purchased the pebbles ( which luckily went with our color scheme) below at Walmart for $3.

Any other great brush tips for the beauty obsessed?

simple style sunday: wedges and wraps

We mentioned earlier how much we loved wedges. And, Shoemint delighted us with a speedy delivery of our Jolly booties. So today, we cozied up with a favorite wrap in grey, a mustard sweater and a treasured pair of cords ( in cobalt, of course) to compliment our new kicks for brunch with friends. Our grandmothers timex and a JCREW and vintage bangles finish off the look.

Happy Sunday!

wardrobe wednesday: the wedge

We can't believe that we use to be against wedges... shh.. pretend we didn't say that. Because, yes, they are fabulous, and every well-heeled gal should have at least one lovely wedge within her closet. Why? Hello! Granting you mile high gams without the teetering (or, ahem, *pain*) of a heel, you'll be walking tall for hours. Which, is why we are so excited about Rachel Bilson's newly "minted" Shoemint collection, including not one, not two, but four fabulous wedges!

Similar to Jewelmint ( don't forget about our birdcage bangle giveaway), Rachel has partnered with stylist Nicole Chavez and none other than master of shoe construction himself, Steve Madden. I think most of the launch line is sold out, but each month boasts newly released and yummy styles. Can't wait to see what's in store.

In need of a little bootie ( yes, that's "ie" and not "y"- we can discuss that later), we snagged up "the Jolly" in a neutral suede.

We figured this would serve as a versatile walking piece for our Caribbean excursion later this year. A versatile color and shape for seasons to come, we'd look at styling this with some cuffed color, the essential white layering tank and a neutral striped sweater. For instant chic, add this cozy colorful scarf and you're out the door. If you can pull it off, we'd suggest a casual top knot like this one from Perpetually Chic's weekend notes.

thankful thursday

We hope everyone is doing well on this thankful day of feasting with the family. We're spending the long weekend up north, away from home. Thankful that we're not cooking, we packed up the car to prepare for tucking into fabulous food, christmas cookie making, and perhaps some black Friday shopping extravaganza.

While running around, we figured it was a classic jeans and t-shirt type of moment. And decided on a cherry red for mani/pedi

Packing essentials: cozy wraps, chic belts and functional ( yet fashionable) shopping footwear

Preparing for the feast!

A little sweet treat before digging in!
