wardrobe wednesday: work it

Our clients often have the most trouble with what to wear to work, especially if the code is something along the lines of "smart casual," aka, not a suit, but not jeans, could be a tie, a skirt would work, but there's so much left somewhere in between. We empathize and have come to demystify. We want to save everyone from a dribbly drab, dark hole of uninspired, conservative boredom (not to mention self wallowing). Getting dressed in the morning should be fun. And it doesn't have to be hard. It's a proven fact that the better we look, the better we feel (and vice versa). So we're starting a new series that focuses on chic work wear.  First rule of thumb: Consider the role(s) you need to play that day... and build your outfit around that.

What does that mean exactly?  Drop us a line and we'll elaborate.

Anyone can don a pair of black pants, a pink shirt and cream cardigan. To which we say, BORING! The trick my lovelies, is in the details. May we suggest a chic silk shirt, with a little piping and pocket personality. Pair with sleek, yet stylish black boots. The flat heel saves these OTKs from being too working girl... if you know what I mean. Slim black pants with a longer cut cardigan keep things interesting. A little red lip never hurt anyone either (but don't go overboard, ours might be just a little too loud).  Consider whether adding specs would help to add a little brains and sophistication (balancing out the red pout). More later on accessorizing ( the key to making those "boring" basics work their magic).

As in, a great skinny black belt would have been perfect cinched around our longer than usual cardi.

Don't get us wrong, a power suit is still, well, powerful, and a safe bet to have in any working closet; it's just that no one really wears them anymore. Note that some of our recommendations (still to come) deserve to be tailored to suit the industry and your personal style (yes, puns intended). So, let us know what your "workspace" is all about and we'll help you out!

We also apologize for the lack of FULL on outfit shots... we just haven't found the right photographer yet!

Yes, no, maybe so?
